Things about home, being at home, making a house a home

Hi love, How are you? What are you up to over the next few days? Today, I plan on getting outside to get a nice long walk in (the sun is out!), and tonight the kids will teach me how to play hockey on the Xbox. Tomorrow morning, we’ll do a virtual indoor Family at Home Adventure, I’ll get some organizing done in the house and plan to clean up the back patio for dining al fresco next week (it’s supposed to be sunny!). I hope that whatever you have planned, that you’re doing well and staying safe.  Thinking of you.♥️ Here’s what I’ve been up to lately: LISTENING TO: Real Food Whole Life Podcast. Some of my favorite…

Bringing Yourself Back to the Present

The last time I wrote on the blog was a month ago, and dang, so much has changed in that month. I don’t want to go into the details of everything that is going on since I’m pretty much certain that you are well aware of the worldwide situation playing out at the moment. What I am here for is to be of help. I live with anxiety. I live with it and can manage it pretty well, but at times like this, it gets heightened. And that’s OK. I am in good company from what I hear. I am trying to take care of myself during this unprecedented time…

    My Favorite Pesto Sauce

I am totally on a pesto sauce kick, guys. Now that fresh basil is showing up in the grocery stores (or I am just noticing it since it’s spring now) I grab a bunch and make a quick pesto sauce for our family dinner. I find the store bought jar sauce too salty for my liking. So I make this one instead. It’s super easy and quick. This is what I do but you can adjust the taste to your liking. My Favorite Pesto Sauce 1 bunch of washed basil (about three cups) 1/2 – 3/4 cup of olive oil (I’ve also used avocado oil when I have it around)…

    Rug Love

In the midst of completing our bedroom makeover, I’ve been looking all over to find a rug that fits perfectly into our new space. I’m still on the lookout for something to pull our room all together – it’s out there somewhere! – but in the meantime, I’ve found some other cute ones and I thought I’d share some rug inspiration with you today. I personally have a special spot for moroccan ones after visiting the beautiful country in 2017 and I wanted to bring one home so bad! One day it will HAPPEN! Which one do you like?

    A Friday Night Playlist.

Oh, man, I LOVE me a Friday night. It’s the end of the week and while there may be some weekend obligations, I always look forward to ending the week with my family and a little dance party. Everyday is the perfect day to dance but on a Friday night? PERFECT and such a fun way to usher in a weekend. We always have music playing in our home, but on TGIF nights, it’s extra special to me. Rob and I will make a cocktail and the family will gather in the kitchen and have dinner, turn the music up (and sometimes, turn on the disco ball) and enjoy catching…

    Snow Days.

That photo up there is of our backyard. Snow snow snow.  We’ve been hit pretty hard the last 4 days with a snowstorm. It’s been crazy. We were supposed to get our fence repaired from the last wind storm from a couple of weeks ago, so that’s why there are missing slots. I hope once we are out from under all of this snow, we can get the backyard in good shape. Yes, I’m ready for warm weather after all of this. I’ve not been out of my house since last Friday. Well, I did go for a walk on Sunday afernoon but otherwise, very much house bound. Lots of…

    Joanna’s Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas.

So, those enchiladas we had a couple of weeks ago are still on my mind. They were really easy to make and even easier to eat. I’d love to share the recipe with you today so that you can get in on the goodness. YUM. Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas, from Joanna Gaines’ new cookbook, Magnolia Table PSA: If you don’t have this cookbook, you need to stop what you’re doing right this second and get one. Just like her awesome show, Fixer Upper, Joanna infused this book with warmth and personality. It’s like she’s talking to you, with the way she weaves stories into the book with her recipes. It’s…

    Rob’s Summer Sangria.

Oh, summer time. The weather is warm, you have no idea what day it is, your dinners are grilled and enjoyed on the back patio – some of my favorite things about summer. One of our favorite drinks to enjoy during the season is sangria. Rob and I had it for the first time on a family trip to Rome a few years ago. We left our apartment in search of a fun evening atmosphere and to enjoy a good meal. We came upon the canal in the city and it was lined with outdoor restaurants with people sitting out on the sidwalk enjoying fresh pasta, live music and singing…

    Pizza Salad.

Hey guys! Here’s a dinner idea that I think I’ll be making more of this summer. Pizza night is always welcomed around here, especially when you get to make your own. The kids made pepperoni and cheese pizzas and I took mine up a notch. My local pizza place makes a salad pizza that I get most of the times that we visit there. You start with a cooked pizza crust and a light sprinkle of Parmesan cheese. And then you can make a custom salad to put on top of the pizza crust. I usually get arugula, with a vinaigrette and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese. I thought I…

Good Eats || A Colorful Salad.

Us Terpilowskis like to eat. We like our pasta, our chicken, our brunches that Rob makes every Sunday morning. We like to gather around our kitchen island and catch up on the day while music plays in the background. Sometimes, it’s a full on meal that I’ve planned and made, sometimes it’s leftovers and sometimes it’s what we like to call “Eat What You Kill Night” when everyone is responsible for getting food into their bellies, food that I don’t have to cook. Because sometimes, a girl need a break and I don’t want to nor do I feel like making a meal. The kids like these nights since it calls…
